Yes, I really don't understand why the super-wealthy don't allocate some tiny slice of their wealth toward doing science differently. I stumbled across an article recently about the Flexner Report (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexner_Report) which would be a great model for someone to apply to our broken process of scientific research.
