The Wright's claims have no independent verification and everything comes from Orville Wright decades later (e.g. Orville restored the Flyer in 1916 and then continuously until he sold it in 1928). In addition the terms on which the Smithsonian obtained Orville Wright's documents and artifacts prohibit the Smithsonian from any and every action that might contradict the belief that the Wrights were the first heavier than air flight.
