Sunken cost fallacy. Israel annexed the Golan Heights despite the overwhelming condemnation of basically every nation. The incumbent Likud Party sees it as an effective strategy and will likely continue until the odds turn against them. The violence against civilian populations and disrespect of international law serves their immediate political needs.

People sadly are in favour of genocide and ethnic cleansing of other people that aren't in their group.
