Cloudflare: Bandwidth Costs Around the World (cloudflare.com)
1 point by cookiengineer on Feb 25, 2024 | hide | past | favorite | 1 comment

After the news about twitch leaving South Korea I was a little curious, and Cloudflare's blog post is very interesting and explains how they try to increase peering constantly in order to drive down network bandwidth costs.

But it's mind boggling that 6 specific telecom providers are producing absurd costs for everyone around the globe: HiNet, Korea Telecom, Optus, Telecom Argentina, Telefonica, Telstra.

In the case of cloudflare those 6 providers get less than 6% of the traffic, but produce 50% of the network bandwidth costs (globally), because they are so damn expensive.
