For me, a door that closes is necessary to call something an "office". (a window that opens is merely helpful)


Yep. Otherwise, it's a cube farm. Or, worse, an open office layout.

The irony is that cube farms are not conducive to actually getting work done. In an open office layout, it's basically impossible.


Having worked in an open office, can confirm.

If you ever want to appreciate your cubicle, go to a busy coworking space and borrow a "hot desk" for the day - basically the same.

Mostly blocks vision, blocks sound... who cares if your stacked in classroom rows.


... and even in the current context, where some companies really want more people to work from the office, and many offices are vacant, I still have yet to see any job ad say "commute 3 days a week and we'll give you an office rather than a cube"
