Well maybe you should spend more time actually knowing about the platform you're talking about. It was ALWAYS known to developers that purchases made through iOS apps would require you to pay 30% to Apple. Whether that is Amazon, New York Times or some random game.

Nope, you're absolutely, provably wrong. Amazon was selling books on the iPhone long before Apple even had an in-app purchase platform.
