No, Its probably Ignorance is bliss. Just take them around a trip across Europe and you will see that their happiness will vanish. Peer comparisons are a major reason why many people loose their happiness.

I'd guess that it's a lot easier to rationalize away what you see on TV ("it's just a made up story, selective editing, propaganda etc.").
