I assume they mean that all future work on open forks must be prepared to defend itself against accusations of copying work that might take place on the BSL upstream (especially given that the starting points for both are identical codebases, meaning future fixes/enhancements will have a high likelihood of doing similar things). This burden did not exist before the license change.
