I'm guessing for the same reason all cars have the steering wheel and turn signal switch in roughly the same place.



BitBucket and GitLab are more distinct and have made different decisions in some places, for better or worse. Forgejo is just a clone of GitHub with slightly different colors.


Gitlab's design is actually based on BitBucket which came 6 years earlier.


GitLab's design at one point was just a copy and paste of GitHub's entire UI.

Their URL design is heavily based on GitHubs.

Interesting history. Seems they were influenced by both.


I'm not sure how that's your conclusion.
