To me this reeks of Western Digital style dishonesty[1][2]. I was wondering how long it would take for the new parent company to rub off on SanDisk and I guess I have my answer. My suggestion is to stay the hell away from anything Western Digital (and now SanDisk) if accurate specs are important to your use case.

I missed that WD had purchased SanDisk. Well that's SanDIsk off the list of suppliers...

What supplier would you recommend? WD and Sandisk have been my go-to for all things storage, but I prefer to pay a premium up to 20% for better quality.

My experience with WD spinning disks has been great. I've had two Sandisk SD cards fail which was a bummer but they both went into a read-only mode so I didn't lose any photos. I've switched to Samsung's high-endurance line for those.

Seagate, Samsung.

There is no way you are in good faith recommending Seagate....

I'd go with WD over Seagate every time (for spinning).
