I started working around 29 years ago, pay was not great as it was a very small company and my first job out of University.

I was writing assembly code for a fire alarm interface system. Code was assembled using a DOS based system, flashed onto an EPROM for testing on the boards. Debugging consisted of tracing signals through the system, or if lucky, the boards had a spare serial port we could use to print messages.
