Louis Rossmann reviews Apple self repair program for MacBooks (youtube.com)

TL;DW: For independent repair shops this program is still 90% useless. They made some progress by letting you buy some individual components like Trackpads, Audio/Magsafe/USB-C boards, but that's it. You still cannot buy a battery by itself. You still cannot buy an LCD by itself (as opposed to the whole display assembly that costs $500), and you still cannot buy the keyboard assembly (instead you need the whole "topcase" which again is around $500). They also still don't provide any schematics and board views at all for expert repair shops. Plus to buy any of the parts you need to provide a serial number of a device you want to repair, which means you cannot stock parts, which makes the repair longer for the customer.

He still commended Apple for making the ever so slight progress in this area by selling some additional parts that weren't available before, but it has still a long way to go to be as repair friendly as say, the Framework laptop.
