I have a (IMO) next little thing that runs a docker image of my "ideal" workstation and then XForwards the GUI to the host machine - this way I can have the very same immutable workstation on different machines.

It totally depends on X. I don't even know how to run wayland.

I am surprised that X was / is so under funded and under supported.
