We changed the URL from http://panamapapers.sueddeutsche.de/articles/56febff0a1bb8d3..., despite HN's strong preference for original sources, because that page begins with an obnoxiously theatrical video that there seems to be no way to turn off. I'm pretty sure HN prefers its news articles without movie trailers.

Keep fighting the good fight, dang.

That is missing almost half of the content accessible on the other page.

Even just copying the content, or using Google Webcache, or using Archive.org/Archive.is would be preferable.

Also, right-click pause turns off the video.

Indeed, but it's a fair intro and the deeper content is linked to in the comments here.

Not changing it would have led to more off-topic objections than changing it. We see more of these articles than just about anybody, and what this one did is far down the long tail of obnoxiousness, especially for an otherwise credible source.

Yes please, the first thing I did was go into Chrome dev tools and delete that video element... Also, scrolling past videos in the page pauses them, so irritating!

It was a tough call, for me too, thx.

Good, I was going to complain about the video, the BBC source seems better

while I agree the video is obnoxious, I can simply right click and select pause. or mute.
