Awesome.

This is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your service dang

Interesting, so the 2 new belts (fields) are closer than the 2 stable existing belts (Van Allen Belts) that shield us from radiation.

These fields could affect the launch and operation of satellites. Or maybe they will help shield us further? Or affect our atmosphere in some way? To be studied...

We've kicked the can down the road for a while, but no worries, we will pick it up soon and recycle it ;)

awesome. thanks for sharing

does anyone else just get "OK" displayed when clicking thru?

thanks for creating a meaningful dialogue here, wish ars would try to do the same

Love the exploration of Olmsted's idea of natural scenery "unbending" and untwisting the pent up anxiety inherent in urban life. To use landscape architecture to "sanitize" and heal the public.

NYC and Boston (and the US in general) are lucky to have had an architect of his caliber designing green spaces...we could use some more of those to catch up with Europe ;)

Also interesting idea here...correlates with talk is cheap...but wonder if there is a word or phrase that captures this idea from Bushnell, the Olmsted family pastor:

"The most important and constant influence that people exerted on each other, Bushnell believed, was not verbal, but rather a silent emanation of their real character that showed in their habitual conduct and made itself felt at a level below that of consciousness."

I was walking around the Smithsonian National Zoo / "the zoo in washington DC" and it really struck me as being very much like parts of where I live now (inner-ring suburban boston) and behold, same dude.

It's amazing that the visual language so effective that a civilian like myself would even notice the correlation, and it's similarly amazing that these spaces were built in such a way that they're still consistent with each other and have survived even though I'm sure someone would love to put condos there.

Yeah he has a very unique, beautiful, and consistent visual language that really captures and conveys majesty. The emerald necklace around the charles is a top US treasure to be sure.

its like the christian version of karma or dharma

love to see progressive ideas in costa rica on how to coexist with our natural brethren. such a beautiful country, hope to see a jaguar or puma there in the wild one day :)

Puma is feasible, got lucky and saw a wild one there myself! (Corcovado)

Spotting wild jaguars in Costa Rica is insanely unlikely though from what the park rangers told us, they are too evasive.

Also, don't miss out on the Cerro Cirripo (highest mountain) if you're there and don't hate hiking. It is an absolutely amazing way to spend 2-3 days (but we needed permit/reservation in advance).

i saw peccaries napping in corcovado - magical place. cerro cirripo is on my list for our next trip. their permit website needs work though cheers

Both jaguars (also called Yaguaretés in Argentina's north) and pumas are gorgeous animals, I'll be very sad if/when they go extinct. It'll be a huge shame.

Every sunflower throws shade on another and murders it to grow tall. All things natural are exponential in a linear resourced world, conflict is baked into coexistence. Coexistence is thus unnatural,a temporary peace granted ny a triumphator to the defeated, lasting as long as the circumstances remain stable .

Coexistance is only the begining, many species are interdependant,or highly co-operative with other species, there are different hordes of multi spiecies birds who forage together, and ,AND,will join in on harassing a predator. Recent examples of octopi hunting and useing fish as there "dogs",good fish get treats, bad fish get punched, fucking wild! While conflict is baked in,it is baked in at the indivdual level first, and does not apply as a universal mechanistic behavior. There is nothing like a "linear resoursed world" sound like ai

interesting perspective....agree nothing is permanent but competition keeps monopolies from forming and stagnation/rot from setting in...
