If I recall correctly, the story of Tomte is one where he is alone on Christmas night, pondering what life and death is, and decides that the art of giving is best virtue. He then knocks on everyone's door with a pig beside him and hands out presents to everyone who opens it for him.

we need more Tomtes in this imperfect world of ours.

It aired during the pregame show. Just a potato with the word "ADVERTISEMENT" on it for 30 seconds. There is a chance they only bought slots for Chicago, as a lot of the twitter feeds mentioning it are located in that area.

I think it's more "I've created a way to make your Github contributions into a poster." I understand where you are coming from, but it's a tad bit reactionary, don't you think?

If I created a website for you to turn a user's facebook activity statistics into a T-Shirt I would hope that you don't think it is contributing to facebook's monopolism of social media.

Maybe a way to also include Bitbucket statistics (or something) would be nice. I don't know. Sorry, I might indeed have been quite harsh.

Brilliant article. Larry Page isn't impressed with Fiber because "it wasn’t game-changing enough,” and that “There’s no flying-saucer shit in laying fiber.” Definitely gives you a peak into the thought process of this giant.

It is tough to capture complete benefits and express it in a dollar amount, especially because it is already tough enough to measure the economic value of products that haven't yet competed in the marketplace.

The US Forest Service created algorithms to calculate ecological value based on rainwater each tree retains, the electricity conserved, and reduction of air pollution - that calculation just happens to be expressed in dollars. How they make that transition from ecological value to economic value is a mystery to me, but it is just something to keep in mind as you look over this. It is moreso a measure of ecological impact, not economic (though, of course, they are connected).
