Have you seen Choremonster? https://www.choremonster.com/.

We've used Choremonster and it seems like one of the most engaging.

Your suggestion of taking photos sounds innovative, but in most cases you'll be there to witness the chores happening so the photos wont be adding anything other than maybe a bit of fun for the children. And the photos themselves may become repetitive, as the chores generally are. Perhaps there's another app idea where photos are used to communicate/manage something between parent and children.

We've used choremonster and its not bad at all. It's quite a challenge to get the balance right in terms of volume of tasks and granularity, so there's some upfront investment - and patience - to get things right. The children do get incentive from it though, but their interest quickly wanes, particularly when you've had a busy couple of days and haven't reviewed their completed tasks )

Thanks for your feedback! About "get the balance right in terms of volume of tasks and granularity" I think that our approach should be to suggest that points are equivalent to money.

This is all getting very personal. We wanted to create a fun project to see if people would join something they knew nothing about but obviously we had to lie a bit to ensure that we didn't give the game away. Ever read the book Join Me by Danny Wallace? We wanted to see if people would join a website in the same manner. We've got an idea for what we want the club to be but we wanted to keep it under wraps to keep it fun.

We've had lots of users join. It's been a really great day. I guess you've 'caught us' ) No harm done I hope.

Okay, I understand where you are coming from. But why not submit it and then leave it. The lying makes it seems to much worse than it potentially is.

No idea. It's being shared amongst my group of friends on facebook. Sounds intriguing, at least to me. (I've applied).

Ugh. Behavior like this encourages more obnoxious teaser sites like this, that profit from abusing people's natural curiosity. These sites are barely a quantum leap above spam.

Raise your operating temperature by a degree or two and reduce cost of air conditioning. There's a wealth of things you can do. Would be interested in novel ideas aswell so hopefully lots of responses to this post!

Work with your energy supplier to run your site from generators during scheduled or peak times, thereby taking the load off the national grid and reducing costs. A number of factors to be considered of course, such as the cost of fuelling your generators, and the increased risk. Savings could be in 10's or 100's of thousands.

I would expect a site like this to provide a good user experience, e.g. confirmation that my email address was accepted. Signed up all the same because it sounds like a great idea and just what I'm looking for.

thanks!

On the ZX Spectrum:

10 PRINT <something>; 20 GOTO 10

I was hooked from that point on. Brings back memories.

Earlier in my career I concentrated learning how to construct software irrespective of language. I remember a good book I read probably 10 years ago, called "Code Complete". Its still on my shelf.

I also don't recommend copying other people's code until you are familiar with the language in question and can debug and enhance the code.

Choose a language - nothing wrong with Basic for learning purposes - get a book that takes you from Hello World to building a small app and read it cover to cover. And be patient. Don't copy other people's code for now. I think you'll get more reward this way and will be able to build upon your learnings instead of spending your time trying to make your current mashups work.
