IMO If you're not using the tools regularly, you should start from the assumption that you're being heavily influenced by the folks that are trying to sell you something. I'm using these agentic tools for writing and improving software many times a day. The way I describe this to people is that it has changed the balance between "do I need to teach the computer to do this" or "do I just do it myself" farther in realm to the former. It's really good a boilerplate which I think is a welcome thing altogether. It's not actually doing the hard thinking that's required to scale something in production, reconcile a conflict between privacy and functionality effectively for your particular customers, or determine with any reliability what will actually sell.

Censys | Product Detection Engineer | Full Time | Remote US

Hey everyone. I'm a Principal Engineer at Censys. We are the source for Internet Intelligence. We conduct a full internet survey every day and turn that into actionable data for folks to identify risk, research emerging internet threats, and make the internet a safer place. If you also get a bunch of data breach mailers in your mail box every year, you're familiar with the impact of security breaches at tech companies. We're trying to put a stop to that by helping companies understand their risk and mitigate it.

HQ is in Ann Arbor, MI, but we're all over the US. We're looking for a Product Detection Engineer. Organizations around the world depend on Censys to help them identify threats in their infrastructure. This person will be involved in helping fingerprint and identify relevant risks using Censys data so that response teams can close vulnerabilities faster. You'll be directly responsible for helping organizations identify issues with their systems quickly and correctly.

Censys | Senior SRE & Staff Software Engineer Roles | Full Time | Remote US

Hey everyone. I'm a Principal Engineer at Censys. We are the source for Internet Intelligence. We conduct a full internet survey every day and turn that into actionable data for folks to identify risk, research emerging internet threats, and make the internet a safer place. If you also get a bunch of data breach mailers in your mail box every year, you're familiar with the impact of security breaches at tech companies. We're trying to put a stop to that by helping companies understand their risk and mitigate it.

HQ is in Ann Arbor, MI, but we're all over the US. We're looking for a Senior SRE to help improve reliability and developer experience, and a Staff Software Engineer to join our Attack Surface Management product team. If you're a little bit more senior or junior than either of the postings, please do still apply. We care a lot more about getting the right people than we do matching the level exactly to the posting.

Please please apply to these role if:

- You can take ownership of improving a part of the product (Staff SWE) or the application platform we build for product engineers (SRE).

- You're game to navigate the messy middle of a small, nimble company with really high customer expectations. You'll have to navigate some ambiguity to be successful in either of these roles - don't expect pristine PRDs coming down from on high.

Our application stack is primarily Go and TypeScript with some seasoning of Python here and there where appropriate. Our primary cloud is in GCP and we also maintain our own physical servers (prior experience with physical hardware is great, but not required).

The links below will cause you to show up as a social referral from me. Feel free to reach out to me directly on Linked In (https://www.linkedin.com/in/farmdawgnation/) with any questions.

Hey all - wanted to share this because it's a problem I've run into a few times now and I figured other people might benefit from the solution.

Additionally, this is a pretty cool example of what AI Agents enable me to do in my spare time now. Before I had a family I had a lot more time to wrangle code myself and build things like this. With the emergence of AI Agents I'm getting to a point where I can actually build "for fun" again in a way I haven't been able to in years.

Enjoy!

This seems like a relatively empty threat considering many international folks don’t want to come here anyhow. There are some parallels here to when my toddler tries to give me consequences for doing things she doesn’t like.

A lot of international people go to Harvard. Like the article mentions, it’s 27% of all students.

There is near infinite demand for western universities. As I've been experiencing personally in Australia

yea i laugh when someone says no one wants to immigrate to usa anymore. most of these colleges are conduits for immigration in usa.

A lot of people who talk about student migration clearly haven't been to a university campus in the last 15 years...

every college grad in my neighborhood in india is planning to go to usa after graduation.

its seen as something odd when someone decides not to.

"Less true" is a bit of a bold statement here. It's still _true_, but you're right in saying that the additional percentage you would need to affect the change might be different between different industries.

It's also possible to optimize costs on the benefits themselves to avoid needing to do that, at times.

In my first job as a software engineer I was working on an inventory management system for the University I attended. The original source for the data was a wacky Access database. We had a copy of the data imported into MySQL in production and it was not uncommon for me to try something, corrupt my local database, and need to restore it from backup.

When doing so I would typically run "TRUNCATE items;" on my local and repopulate it with the content from the not-yet-live production copy. This worked great until the afternoon where I was doing a demo for my boss in the office, realized my local datastore was in a bad state, and then got my tabs for "production" and "local" mixed up in my terminal. I truncated the entire dataset on production while my boss was standing behind me.

I got to learn a lot about how to export from Microsoft Access and import to MySQL that month. Lol.

Ha, I've had this experience recently. I was working on a private pototype of automated dependency updates in GitHub repos before it was a thing that was widely available. Ended up abandoning it. Of course, a few years later....
