Why? It’s not really harmful to children. Note all the verbage in the news that says “hospitalized with covid” instead of “hospitalized because of covid”. They are going to the hospital mostly due to other reasons
That's just not true at all. Children have a 13% chance of getting long covid, for one. MIS-C is another (rare but) serious risk that comes along with covid. Children can and do end up on ventilators or dying. Why would you argue against that? Are you OK with families running that risk?
I don't have the source available but was told that the concern was there is some kind of evidence that the vaccine had a low chance of causing long term heart issues in some children, which is why it hasn't been approved for children under 5 yet.
Risk of myocarditis (heart inflammation) in men under 40 years old is higher after 2 doses of an mRNA vaccine than from SARS-CoV-2 itself, particularly after Moderna where it's many times higher: https://vinayprasadmdmph.substack.com/p/uk-now-reports-myoca...
Article is an overview of the most interesting findings; in particular I'm referencing the second image, which is copied directly from a study that's linked right above it.
It's a good article, as far as I can tell - in particular as actually presents some evidence for reasonable assumptions. Though to be fair, it was known before that GoF research was conducted in the WIV (I believe) and there is not yet any evidence that the research actually resulted in this virus.
What's new to me though is how deep the involvement of US entities apparently was and how close to SARS-CoV-2 territory the whole endeavour came. So in this case, absence of evidence is definitely not evidence of absence.
Also that one of the drivers of shutting down the lab-leak theory was apparently commissioning the WIV to do GoF research! (Though I still wonder what all the other scientists supporting that editorial were doing.)
If those FOIA papers will be used for more investigations in the near future, thing should definitely become interesting.
I wouldn’t call them that. In fact living in LA (not for long) I would consider all the fearful people living here to be the antisocial ones. Terrified at every new covid development. Locking themselves inside.
Having spent significant time in Florida this year, masks and any covid restrictions have been gone for a while there.
By contrast, all my new year’s plans in NYC got cancelled, mask mandates exist for gyms and a lot of other places, vaccine mandates exist everywhere, and many many shows have been cancelled.
While I understand many (most?) HNers would consider this positive (“look, people acted of their own accord!”), those tired of covid 19 restrictions, fears, and whatever else you want to call it, have looked at Florida with envy.
Lockdowns has become a catch all term for this.
I need to restate that many might agree with these restrictions so much so that it’s not a big deal to them but it’s not nothing and might even be significant for others.
I love mexico btw
