Those mods can be done hilariously cheap vs starting with a raw block of land with no utilities. Just having a foundation with exterior walls and utilities ran to it, even undersized, is massive time save.

To start with, for many conversions you might need changes to the exterior walls to be able to pack in enough flats with required access to windows, depending on your local regulations, so it's not a given even the exterior walls would be untouched.

It certainly can be done - given many have been done, but it's not at all a given it'll be cheaper for all properties vs. tearing it down (which would still keep the utilities to the property, of course) and starting over.

That's a cool story, but not true in all of Arizona. I built in Arizona and without code inspections or anyone checking I follow regulations. They probably just tried to build in a fascist shithole like Maricopa or Pima county where people with such deranged regulatory thinking congregate for their mental illness self support group.

In my county we figured out that ' paid for in blood' was bullshit invented by corrupt inspectors and contractors and we voted to eliminate it. Draw a rectangle on a map and after that it's green light.

The tenth amendment constrains congress from regulating outside enumerated powers. Intrastate trade is not an enumerated power. Most applications of the NLRB are tyrannical short-circuits.

First of all, there's no evidence that any of this is intrastate or that Amazon has made a claim on the basis of intrastate trade (this would be a flabbergasting claim for them to make, given that their business is horizontally integrated across 50 states).

Second: the relevant decision here is NLRB v. Jones & Laughlin, which puts it succinctly[1]:

> Although activities may be intrastate in character when separately considered, if they have such a close and substantial relation to interstate commerce that their control is essential or appropriate to protect that commerce from burdens and obstructions, Congress cannot be denied the power to exercise that control.

I'm not aware of a more recent ruling that changes that doctrine.

Government should be forced to compete in the free market like the plebs if they want money for their programs and salaries, rather than sending men with machine guns to prey on victims. Hope the fucks in office are good at flipping burgers and can cut out the avocado toast.

Makes sense but real people have real ages. Couldnt they just say the AI is a rendition of an 18 year old with some hypothetical development deviation? You'd have to ban all ai porn because the age can't be measured as it's non-existent.

That would indeed be the probable next step for government or intergovernmental organizations. Criminalize AI porn. Then criminalize regular porn.

The government is greedy in its lust for control and order in a chaotic world. It has a tendency to overreach, then overreach again (as we see with in the overlap of privacy and counterterrorism).

Ah yes, the japanese “1000 year old dragon loli” gambit.

Which is actually a perfectly valid defense imo, as it’s horribly dumb to incriminate real people because of fictional characters. Should everyone who has a copy of IT go to jail because of child pornography? It makes no sense.

I did that. Then they got a federal search warrant by making up a dog that supposedly smelled something, said there must be drugs hidden in my GI tract, dragged me to the hospital and then sent me the hospital bill when nothing was found. You can stop answering questions and they keep dragging you to more hospitals racking up your debt. This whole time I was 'not under arrest' so I had no real rights, but apparently DHS can drag you to hospitals cuffed for 'emergency medical care' without an arrest.

On another occasion feds came to my house to investigate a neighbor. When I refused to talk they waited until I was shutting the door and stuck their fingers in to try and get me for assault as it closed. Thankfully I caught the door at the last millisecond and just stared at them blankly with the door cracked until they left.

The solution is to severely limit the power of the federal government... but at least in the United States, every serious political party is working over time to do the opposite.

You don’t need to “limit power” (whatever that means), you just need to make people accountable.

Getting rid of qualified immunity for most law enforcement agents would be a good start.

And eliminate immunity for judges. They ought to be brought to account for subversion of rights.

Im amazed she pulled the money out so easily. A few times I've bought shitmobile cars for 5k+ plus cash and the teller always spends 5 minutes typing up a SAR before they hand it to me and always interrogate why and seem annoyed. WTF bank does she have that they just grab 50k no questions asked?

She likely had to speak to a bank manager and return on a different day to retrieve the money. Of course, it's not possible to pull out that much cash from a regular teller.

According to the story, it all happened in the same afternoon and she was able to get the money on the spot, albeit going to a different floor.

Most? Where do you bank that does this?

$22 in Seattle would give you plenty of cash for a visit to REI headquarters to buy a real nice ultralight tent and dry down sleeping bag that will fit into a small enough backpack that people might not figure out you're homeless.

Drug addicts are the visible homeless in Seattle, they aren’t going to make rent at any price, let alone hold a job (so why not drift to HCOL cities with more generous social services and less enforcement for shop lifting). Functional unhoused who are either crashing on couches, or sleeping in vans or cars. Most people holding jobs, even at $20/hour, actually have housing. It’s not impossible to get at that wage if you aren’t supporting a family at the same time.

I ended up under a tarp at that wage. Then I worked a rotation on a fishing boat and afterwords hitchiked to Eugene where I could actually rent a room from full time labor.

The counterpoint is people like McAffee who despite admitting and bragging of the lewdist shit continued to garner investment. Honestly you can get away with a lot in the US as long as you don't make personal insults to a coworker or customer, especially if you work in trades or non woke tech. Might even be required to be a bit loony from what I've seen in construction sites.

Minimum wage was touted as a way to push out blacks, immigrants, and other undesirables with asymmetric access to education and capital when it was introduced in the US in the wake of the great depression. They wanted a floor high enough that only a nice white boy would earn and thus outlaw the lesser paid workers to the fringes where they can be further exploited.

Minimum wage still has this function today, a policy for smug elite to smash down the least fortunate while doing double speak to pretend like they are doing the poor a favor.
