I've been using KDE for a decade and I completely agree. It used to be only better than GNOME because I could remove features from it and now I run completely stock KDE and it's solid compared to anything else.

The second person is more correct: https://www.uptodate.com/contents/coronavirus-disease-2019-c...

UpToDate is what I use to manage patients, and is pretty good.

StackOverflow: Developers :: UpToDate: Physicians

... which makes the "Don't confuse your Google search with my medical degree" meme a bit more amusing.

Would you hire the developer that copy and pastes from StackOverflow without understanding the code or the developer who reads StackOverflow to come up with their own solution/conclusion?

Manage them as a medical student...? [1] As an attending physician, I wouldn't follow the advice of a med student nor intern.

[1] "I'm going to throw in my two cents as a medical student"

Are you saying that UpToDate is badly flawed, or are you just being gratuitously condescending?

> As an attending physician, I wouldn't follow the advice of a med student nor intern.

I hope this is just sloppy writing on your part, because the sentiment your comment is actually conveying is downright dangerous.

What do medical students have to do with anything? Stay on topic

This isn't typically used even with the option of off label prescription.

> The effects of loci of interest on male and female lifespan are largely the same, although their effect on survival may be slightly stronger in middle age (40–60 years) compared to old age (>80 years).

This is interesting. I have a feeling that because there are many congenital cardiovascular and other congenital diseases that one usually succumbs to in the 40-60 range that is what we are seeing a stronger link to genes here. Unless a parents passes away before the age of 55 from a heart attack it's not considered hereditary.

I find it interesting when studied like this are performed. One of the best predictors of life expectancy in elderly individuals is grip strength; not because of the fact that one has a strong grip, but because a stronger grip means more muscle mass leading to longer life. When I see that iron levels are correlated to longer lifespans I wonder if there's something else going on. Many women, in particular, walk around with iron deficient anemia and don't realize their fatigue is because of their lack of iron. Anyway, I'm excited for this line of research to be further delineated.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't been shot yet. Unmarked camouflage officers in unmarked vans that do not identify themselves as officers sounds like they might get shot at if they try detaining the wrong person.

It's a no-win situation. If they fight back, they get labeled as terrorists. If they don't fight back, it provides positive feedback for the behavior and is likely to continue.

Learned helplessness seems like the goal here.

They aren't unmarked - their camouflage uniform clearly says "POLICE" on the front.

To be clear, do not shoot someone with POLICE written on their uniform, or even anyone you suspect might be a police officer, because you will spend the rest of your life in jail.

The pics I’ve seen show a small “police” patch in dark lettering over camo obscured by assault rifle straps and equipment. That’s not very clear in the dark when they don’t identify themselves and are putting a bag over your head

I would call that unmarked, as I’m not aware of any federal agency who identifies themselves as “police”.

They also have agency patches on — there's a lot of misinformation being spread about them being unidentified.

Especially with lots of alt-right military-cosplayers that frequent portland to stir up conflict. It's hard to tell who is a fed goon and who is an alt-right goon when they both shop from the same military suppliers. This has been going on for over a year.

Do you have an issue with undercover cops? Plain clothes cops? They all have unmarked cars. I dont hear anyone complaining....

The only reason people are freaking out is because they are going directly after antifa. You attack federal buildings, you get arrested.. or let go because NLG is a legal arm of Antifa and pays your bail.

I tried to use Brave for a little bit, but it felt like I was apart of a meme. The browser is fine, but it felt invasive and awkward. I can't put my finger on why it made me feel this way; something was just... off.

Firefox and Safari are my two main stays now. Both have privacy focus, although one takes privacy significantly more seriously. They are both phenomenal browsers in my opinion.

Freedom of speech does not equal to freedom of consequence. What I've listened to people lately say is that when they engage in personal attacks they should be allowed to because "Freedom of Speech". Yet, the type of speech that is protected is speech that is against the government.

Being mean, hurtful, and disrespectful against an individual is not protected speech, it's called being a jerk.

Being a jerk _is_ protected though, as is making jerk speech (at least in the US).

It just makes one a jerk to engage in it. Not a crime.

> Freedom of speech does not equal to freedom of consequence

Yes, it literally does. That is, in fact, the definition.

I'm hoping that lab grown meat takes off. I believe that this is on par with expanding solar power and electric cars in terms of combating global warming.

I hope so too. This seems like one of the most important things to tackle, but how safe is it? What's the chance that 50 years down the line we figure out that this has some damaging effect on the human body?

It would have a similar composition as ground beef. I guess refrain from excess like any red meat.

Culture negative pneumonia is a relatively common phenomena. It's also quite difficult to get adequate sputum cultures, but in this case where n=60 I'm skeptical that was the issue. There could be a lot of potential causes for this, but COVID is low on the differential.

I want to say that spillover events, or a virus jumping from X host to humans, happens all the time. COVID became a pandemic because human to human transmission was possible from genetic mutation. Usually with spillover events humans are a dead end host and the person infected will be an n=1.

> It's also quite difficult to get adequate sputum cultures

Heck yes. PNA cx will come back negative a good 2/3 of the time. Doesn't mean an awful lot.

Is there a significant amount of Facebook employees that are actually planning on leaving?

From my experience money talks. Many people will use the logic of "if not me it will be someone else" for their cognitive dissonance to work at morally degenerate organizations. I'd be interested if there was a survey of current employees who would be willing to leave if another entity paid an analogous salary.

>Is there a significant amount of Facebook employees that are actually planning on leaving?

Of course not. The proof is in the puddin'. There is, and never has been, a mass exodus of technical talent from these companies. And during this period there has been near constant hand wringing and crocodile tears about the evil things these companies do.

Especially now with the US economy in the toilet and unemployment numbers at astronomical levels. No mass exodus is going to happen unless people can easily move into another job.

I don't know of a "significant amount" of employees, but my LinkedIn feed this morning had two engineers post that they had left. But also had one guy say that he had just joined. Take that for what it's worth.
